Best Burger Sauce Recipe (it's like a McDonalds BigMac Copycat)

Summertime classics like burgers are a quick way to get your beef fix compared to BBQ brisket but layering flavours really amps up an al-fresco BBQ burger. For my BBQ burgers, I usually make a homemade burger sauce that takes just a few minutes but amps up the flavour (especially when combined with layers of crispy lettuce, fresh tomato, raw white onion, cheese, avocado slices & smoked bacon).

After I made burgers at a BBQ a few weeks back with my special burger sauce & layer combo, I received a phone call about asking me for the recipe, so here it is:

Basic Burger Sauce Recipe

  • 6 tbs mayonnaise
  • 2 tbs ketchup
  • 1/2 tbs yellow mustard
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/4 tbs smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tbs garlic powder
  • 1/4 tbs onion powder
  • 1/2 tbs Worcestershire sauce

If you add chopped pickle or pickle relish, it ends up like BigMac sauce. For those people who are not fans of pickles - you can use a little pickle juice for flavour to achieve the sauce without the 'bits' in the sauce.

One of the biggest game changers for my burgers (and BBQ beef brisket buns) has been to ensure I toast up the buns - especially brioche buns. This can be done in a 'dry' pan or with a little butter or even beef fat but this step in process adds texture & flavour to a brioche bun, helping to stop condiments like the burger sauce or ketchup sinking into the bun (though adding a layer of cheese can help as well).
